| The essence of life is the correct functioning of our neural endings. When a synapse passes on a message from itself to its neighbour it does so according to how it has been done from millennia ago. These messages are electrochemical in nature and are created by the increase or decrease of certain essential biochemicals in our cranial system.
Our body is at all times being subjected to bombardment of the senses. As you are reading this not only are your eyes receiving information but also the parts of your body that are in contact with your clothes or the seat you are sitting in or even the coffee on your table are sending information to the central nervous system.
As a process of growing we have taken in these signals and interpreted them into whatever is good or bad for us. In essence we have "programmed" ourselves to understand the effects of these sensory perceptions. These "programmes" form the basis of our values and beliefs.
Our mind, body and spirit meet in our beliefs. What we believe deeply affects what we think and how we act. NLP sees beliefs not in terms of true or false, but in terms of useful or not useful. What are the consequences of our beliefs? What actions flow from them? As we cannot know everything about the world, in many areas our beliefs are simply our best guess at the moment.
Our mind and body seem constant, but are changing all the time, like a river - ceaseless activity, moment by moment change, yet overall something at a deep level is the same. Thoughts and physiology are intimately connected: what and how we think affect our physiology, and our physical health and well being affect our thoughts.
Certain experiences remain etched in our memory not so for certain others - why? Over the period of time we have seemingly developed a filtering system that permits only that we deem to be useful to us. How many of us wish to go back in time and correct our actions? This is not just plain wishful thinking. With the tools and techniques provided by this 'psychology of excellence' known as NLP; we can do wonders with ourselves.
NLP - Neuro Linguistic Programming - simply put - is programming the language of the brain. 'Neuro' refers to the mind and how we organize our mental life. 'Linguistic' is about language, how we use it and how it affects us. 'Programming' is about our sequences of repetitive behaviour and how we act with purpose. So NLP is all about connection [Panchendriya Manabuddhi], as only our thoughts, word and actions connect us to the outside world and the world within.
A few powerful leaders of Ancient and contemporary India who have absorbed the essence of Panchendriya Manabuddhi to an unconscious competence level and have exhibited it in their everyday lives:
